An alternative explanation would be that of the external variable of socioeconomic status. Socioeconomic status could explain both the dependent variable of attachment and the independent variable of well being later in life. In a family with higher socioeconomic status, it is more likely that one parent or the other could stay at home if desired and live off a single one of the parent's income, leaving the other parent to take care of the child during the day instead of placing them in day care. This could result in better attachment. Likewise, it is far easier for a person to excel educationally when they are more privileged (higher socioeconomic status) because they likely have the means to attend collage. A individual with lower status has far more hardships to face to achieve such a thing.
