Like it is stated in the lab, it cannot be concluded that attachment in early years leads to a more stable lifestyle in later years-- even though there is a strong correlation. Obviously treatment in the younger years shapes the child in certain decisions they make which influence and shape their lives as they get older. However, there are many other factors involved that can override childhood attachment. For example, experiences outside the family in school or in sports that make the child more confident or more reserved. Or even if the parents are divorced at a young age. The textbook says that the earlier the divorce happens, the more traumatizing the effects on the child. A single mother may be as attentive as ever, but the separation of the parents could still have a significant impact on the child.
