Friday 8/28 Today was the first time I had a dream since I arrived in Pittsburgh. I only remember a segment of my dream: I was in the woods, surrounded by many leaves, trees, and other plantation (I think this is because I went running through Schenley Park yesterday). Brown and green are the prominent colors I remember. I had to go on a hike uphill to get somewhere. I was with a lot of different people, but there is just one person I remember meeting and it was a man who was familiar with the area. He had two different personalitiessometimes he would be amiable, leading me around the woods, and other times he would abruptly change his demeanor by turning into a wolf-like character, filled with bitterness and darkness. In the last scene, the man left walking into the woods. I woke up because of the fire alarm that went off this morning.
I think you subconsciously have felt most comfortable either when running or in the Park in general. The man probably represents someone you think you are getting to know well at school Sometimes you have fun times together, but not always. You may worry he will leave. Maybe he has unintentionally already. You fear his or her abandonment and want him to stay in the woods, or with you where you are comfortable.
I believe the setting of your dream is a location which is a reminder of Carnegie Mellon (Schenley Park) and that the hill you are hiking up is a metaphor for the challenges that face you during the next four years. The other people who you are with resemble your friends and all the people you will meet during your studies and activities, all of whom will teach you many aspects of life and help you up the hill. I believe that the "main man" in your dream represents your professors. They will always be there to help and inspire you, but at the end of the day, their goal is to push you to strive to be the best you can be in four short years. On graduation day, however, they will fade off into the brown and green as you stand at the top of the hill, will the world at your fingertips.
