Two dreams for the price of one

Penname: cestlavie

This dream was actually extremely similar to a dream I have had before. The main difference was that last time I was accompanied in the dream by a small group of adventurers who I no longer remember. This time I had only one companion: Zhao Yun from the Dynasty Warriors video game series.

Zhao Yun and I were walking along a wide, misty path surrounded by mountains. Further down the path, we encountered a football field-sized hole in the ground. The hole was dark and full of mist, so it seemingly had no bottom. Across from the hole was a mountain with a large, pyramid-shaped temple-like structure built into it. Zhao Yun and I wanted to go into the temple to find something, but I do not remember what that something was. The problem was how to get across the hole to the temple. I noticed that there were some small rocky platforms along the sides of the hole, as well as a few rickety wooden walkways that someone had built above us. As we tried to navigate across using these resources, we encountered various objects that came directly from video games I have played in the past: teleportation pads and levitating swinging vines from Donkey Kong 64, treasure chests from Kingdom Hearts, and more. Some way or another, Zhao Yun and I ended up on the other side, in front of the temple. As we were walking in, I suddenly realized within my dream that I had dreamed about this temple before. I remembered that there would be a cute teddy bear-like creature awaiting us, and it would grow into a huge evil monster that we would have to defeat to get to the next set of dangers.

Before anything else happened, this dream ended and another one began. I was walking down the hall of a very modern building towards some large windows. Many other people, who I perceived as college students, were walking there as well. I turned the corner at the end of the hallway and opened a door. I found myself on the roof, looking out at the bright blue sky.

I've had dreams that are similar to the first part of this dream. I don't really believe that they have any deep meaning or that they are relaying some repressed emotion. I just think that certain activities or hobbies that people have tend to appear commonly in their dreams. It could be video games or basketball or photography. I think that because we perform these things so frequently, they become skills to us and in our dreams we are practicing these skills. In your dream you were practicing the problem solving that's common in adventure-genre games. Your brain was running through a certain scenario to cement it into your memory and skill-set.

The second part of the dream I'm not so sure about. It's interesting that it popped right after the first (or that you remember it being right after the first). It could be that you view college as a new adventure and a new challenge and the blue sky represents the openess of the new world that your in.
