As a first year student, I was obviously extremely nervous about starting classes. I was one of those people who tended to pick up a copy of Princeton Review's 371 Best Universities and read the blurb about how "challenging" CMU is. As a result of this preconceived notion I had, I dreamt about how my first day of classes would go. I walked into my first lecture and scanned faces of students, seeing if I recognized anyone. I was soon extremely surprised to see my mother sitting in the last seat of the first aisle. I blinked a few times and then I looked behind my shoulder to see my dad in front of the classroom ready to give the lecture. All I remember after that was being laughed at as my mom and dad urged me to come to the front of the lecture hall and introduce myself to a bunch of students I didn't know.
The dream is likely to be a direct result of your new transition to college life. You could be feeling anxious and unprepared about the new and unfamiliar phase of life you are about to enter, especially with the expectation that CMU is a tough environment to thrive in. Also, your hopeful scanning for familar faces as you enter the room shows that you could be feeling in need of company as you tread into unfamiliar territory, possibly because your best friends and your family might not be around you. In addition, the very fact that both your parents are participating in your class probably shows that your mom and dad have always been there for you in your life, as guardians, friends, teachers, etc. That is probably the reason why your mom is seated in the lecture with you (as a friend willing to accompany you in your new phase of life), and also why your dad appears to be a professor (as a guiding teacher in life). One often dreams of people they know because he/she misses them. Give them a call every now and then!
