Judging from my results, humans don't act the same way as machines. A machine, since it would always perform in the same way, would have consistent results. However, as humans, we both have the ability to adapt and learn as well as the possibility of error, allowing for variation both in the positive and negative directions.
I agree with your statement, my answers varied greatly. One factor that was not taken account for was the ruler "grabber" picking up on the ruler dropper's cadence. If the dropper had an inconsistent cadence, would the results have been different?
I agree that humans do not act as machines do because a machine is consistent whereas a human is not. In addition to the ability to adapt and learn, we also had the ability to choose whether to focus on the stimulus or the response. We have three types of responses (kineses, taxes, and reflexes) whereas machines do not.
I agree that machines do not act as humans to some extent. I agree with the fact that foldedcrane brought up originally about how humans will come up with different answers constitently while computers will come out with the same consistent answer, which would explain the staggering in results. However, I do feel that we are like machines in the sense that our reaction times or responses to stimuli are basically as fast as machines. Catching the ruler never took longer than about 191 msec. for me.
