Ruler Lab

Pen Name: Conchita

Gleitman discusses the fact that humans are biological in nature and that this includes a mechanistic component.  There are physical and chemical mechanisms in the human body responsible for behavior such as muscles in the hand contracting to catch a falling ruler.  The ruler lab itself supports this view of humans as machines because collecting the data requires these physical mechanisms to function, but the results do not support this view.  Gleitman discusses the fact that the mechanistic view claims that a persons biology can predict their behavior.  The results show no definitive trend and thus the results do not support Gleitmans view of humans as machines because it was not consistent or predictable.
