I think that this experiment does not support the view of humans as machines. While some of my trials improved with practice, sometimes I made mistakes and my current reaction time was larger than my last one. Also, sometimes I dropped the ruler and did not even count that trial. Also, sometimes I anticipated when my partner was dropping the ruler when she got into a rhythm and I decreased my reaction time greatly. These two actions, anticipating and not consistently catching the ruler, are not actions performed by machines.
