My Earliest Memory: Tricycle

I had my earliest memory when I was 6 years old.

I remember, when I lived back in Los Angeles, CA with my family, in this apartment downtown, it was my brother's birthday, and my parents got him this little red tricycle. When they got it they had to assemble it because it came in all these different pieces. They spread all the pieces out of the floor and thats when I saw the red wheel (the front wheel of the tricycle). I remember that exact moment because I remember thinking that I wanted to ride it just like a unicycle.

My memory was interesting then because I only remember that moment because I added meaning to the situation. My personality is somewhat the same because I always have these crazy ideas about doing things. This is also the first time I time I remember imagining doing something that seemed so extraordinary at the time.

Ah, I too had first memory which included me thinking about doing something. In my case I actually performed what I was thinking at the moment although it was not entirely successful. Hmm, I wonder if actually attempted to ride it like a unicycle.

I went through many posts and I noticed many of first memories include something emotionally significant, or consist of an significant event, but it seems some memories, like ours, is recalled because we have thought of something awesome(?), and not because the event was amazing in a simliar degree. However, I think I need to consider that other people may have actually had thought of things in their first memory but either, did not write it down, or could not remember.

I would also have to agree with the statement that these earliest memories are tied into emotional or significant events that happened. I felt like there were images or ideas I could remember from an earlier age then the one I posted but really could not recall any actual memories from them. I think that the fact that it was your brothers birthday and you really took a liking to the tricycle and the idea of riding something so unusual as a unicycle helped this be a vivid memory for you. Also, maybe this idea of riding a unicycle or doing something awesome and crazy has really molded who you are today and that is why it is your earliest memory because it hold a good amount of significance in who you are today.
