Pen Name: Kate102 My earliest memory is when my sister was born. I was six at the time and when I got back home from school, my grandmother was on the phone. After talking on the phone for a few minutes she told me I had a sister. I remember I was so happy that I jumped around and hugged my grandma.
Interestingly, I don't think I have any memories before my sister was born. Although we have home movies, I don't remember any of the things that I see in the videos before she was born. However, I do have some memories where I'm not sure how old I was. One memory that could possibly be my earliest is when I was around five or six. I was climbing up a pole in the playground. There were some bees living in a hole. I looked into the hole and the next thing I knew I was stung by one of them on my neck. I can't recall exactly how old I was.
I think I remember both of these memories because they were a shock to me at the time.

I know how you feel about the disjointed childhood memories. I remember maybe two minutes of the entire event and everything else blurs out.
In regards to your home video comment, when doing this lab, I found it hard to differentiate the memories I personally remember and the memories my mind recreated to fit the home videos.
I agree with oz and I understand what you mean about the vaugness of your age in certain memories. Im not completely sure about my age in my memory, I had to think retrospectively and narrow it down, i didnt just "know."
