My earliest memory is of me (at about 4 years old) running around my neighborhood in the Philippines. My used to teach at a university near my house and the house was also close to an ice cream factory. My dad knew people who worked at the ice cream factory and, needless to say as a young boy growing up, a fresh helping of ice cream was always a great treat to have. So in my memory, I can remember running outside of my house on a hot day to the ice cream factory. I went up to my fathers friend and I asked him if I could have one. I can remember that the warehouse was dark and very cold and on the main floor sat an array of large freezers each containing various flavors of ice cream. I remembered taking the ice cream home and eating some. I then took out a chair and put the ice cream away in the freezer. I cant really recall anymore after that.
Approximate Age: 4
Extraordinary Circumstances: I guess the reason why this memory was so memorable was it was the first time I can remember a drastic change in temperature. In the Philippines the weather never falls below 70F and stepping into a room that was at least 32F was a large temperature change at the time.
I cant really say that I was the same person then as I am now. While I am still the same person physically (to an extent), my life experiences and memories have changed. In addition, my personal opinions have also changed.
