I dreamed that I was back in my hometown with my friends from home. We were in the basement at my dad's house but there somehow was enough room for a bunch of carnival-style games. My friend Chris and I played one game for the longest time but neither one of us ever won. Eventually we walked up the stairs and one of my teachers was there and we started talking about sports. I don't remember anything else, but I'm sure there was more.
This connection between your hometown and the teacher upstairs could suggest the way you currently feel about your current surrundings in real life. It seems that your home life and academics have merged together. Your dad's basement could simply be your mind's attempt to connect home with college. Or it could simply be saying that you are homesick, or saying that, no matter how far your school might be from home, home is always nearby (your dad's basement is only one floor below the teacher). Assuming that you live on-campus in a dorm, this could mean that you now view your dorm or the CMU community in general as your new home. The presence of carnival games in your dad's basement represents the various fun activities that are available for you during your college life. You could be trying to pursue a sport activity and the teacher could be the one supervising the sport. Perhaps you are trying to be more active in the community and the discussion on sports represents that attempt at being active.

Personally, I think that your dream is essentially you missing home and your home friends, and trying to imagine all of the great things that home brought for you. From the fun of the carnival in your dad's basement, to talking to your teacher about sports, you seem to feel comfortable in your home and having a good time. I think that your dream shows that you want to be back home and having a good time with your friends at home.
This dream shows that you miss the joy you have at home. Where the carnival is a metaphor for te fun times at your with your friends and family. I think the teacher and you discussing sports is that there is a competition between you and the teacher in a specific way. Where the teacher is trying to fail you while you are trying your hardest to recieve an A grade.
Considering this is the first week of college I think the setting of your dream, your hometown, shows that you're not necessarily homesick but not quite used to being in such a new environment. The carnival games could mean you equate being home with having as much fun as a carnival. The never ending game with your friend could mean that you never want the fun you have with your friend to end. Finally, the conversation with your teacher could not only be your reconnecting with someone from your homewtown but it could show how now that you've graduated and are older you're able to have a more casual conversations with people you once had to uphold a very professional relationship with.

I think that the carnival games in your basement represent all of the high energy carnival-like activities that you did throughout orientation week. It's very different from what goes on back home, so you are merging the two (home and CMU) in your dreams. The fact that neither of you ever won might stand for your disappoinment with the first week (or two) in college. The presence of your teachers might represent the large work load that you expect to have in the near future, or already have.
First and foremost, your dream suggests that you may be homesick. Furthermore, you may have left for college without making amends with certain friends, and your superego desires to a return to a state of happiness. As a result, you could be experiencing moral anxiety because you are unable to give proper apologies to old friends. However, your interactions with Chris indicate that you left home without expressing your exact feelings for him. But perhaps because neither of you could win the carnival game, you feel that no matter how hard you try you may never be able to express your feelings for him.
I think this dream shows that you miss your home. You seem to remembering things that you did for fun back home. Now you are in school, and you are transitioning to a different setting. This is represented by the different floors. You talking to your teacher represents the academic environment at college. Although it isn't filled with as much enjoyment as back home, you do still enjoy the academic environment.
