In my dream I begin in my dorm. I then leave to use the restrooom. I leave the door cracked open and do not bring my key. After using the restroom, I run into my friend who lives on the same floor. We begin talking about a girl I know from home. For most of the talk I evade the idea of having a "heat-to-heart" conversation with the girl from home. When the conversation ends and I return to my room, I find that the door has been shut (presumably by the wind) and I am locked out.

I interpret getting locked out of your room to be a standard manifestation of anxieties, and one very appropriate to these first few weeks of getting settled into dorms. I think you are nervous about your relationship with the girl from home, and are trying to avoid figuring out where you two are. You possibly have tried to repress your problems with her, and these worries are coming out in your dream.
It seems like this dream is your mind telling you that you wish to pursue a relationship with this girl from home. Starting out in your dorm is a symbol of loneliness as you are separated from your old home. Then when you run into your friend you begin talking about the girl because she's on your mind, but you're avoiding the idea of a heart-to-heart because you aren't ready to express your feelings for this girl. However, when you return to the room and find it locked, this is a symbol that your mind believes the time has come for you to express your feelings for this girl and to not be lonely anymore.
