Earliest Memory Lab

I was 2 years old and it was my first night in my "big girl bed" (my first bed without sides.)  I remember being really scared, so much so that my dad slept on the floor next to my bed the whole night.  I also remember my sheets had Barney on them.  I think this memory has remained with me because my dad died when I was three so this is actually one of the few memories I have of him.  I still identify with the two year old version of myself and I think my personality is the same as it was then.  I'm told that I was pretty stubborn back then and that definitely hasn't changed! :)

Your memory reaches so far back- I wish I could remember things that occurred when I was 2! Although considering the reasons as to why you still remember this, I realize that might be a slightly callous thing to say- I am sorry for what happened with your father. My first memory also involved my father, although I could not remember what I myself was doing at the time or what I was thinking- I only have a picture, not a complete memory.

My first memory involved my dad too. This is probably because important events in our early lives are interactions with parents, so it makes sense our first memories often involve our parents.

It's not callous at all! I was surprised when I sat down and realized how long ago my memory must have been. And I'm sure you're right about why our memories involve our parents. They're really the first people we know!
