Earliest Memory

The earliest memory I can think of is from when I was probably about 2 years old. I was sitting in a cafe (I know which one, too). My dad was trying to teach me how to use a straw to drink something (I don't remember what) only he was teaching me to use it by covering the top with my thumb, picking up the straw, and then drinking from the other end. My mom was trying to tell me that this isn't normal use of a straw, but my dad insisted, and since my mom wasn't telling me how to normally use a straw, I believed my dad and was confused as to why my mom would be so negative about my using a straw.

I don't think there really were extraordinary circumstances that made this particularly memorable; I really have no clue why I remember it at all. Maybe the idea that my parents disagreed on something about me really made an impact, even though it was something so trivial and it's not like my mom was angry with me.

When I remember this, I definitely think of it as me, not as some other person. I would say that my personality was different but mostly only because 18 years have gone by and I have matured and currently have more sophisticated outlook. However, I do identify myself as the person learning to incorrectly use a straw.
