My Earliest Memory

One of my earliest memories is from when I was in kindergarten.  I was getting ready for school and we were about to leave and we couldn't find my backpack. I absolutely loved this backpack- it was the perfect shade of blue and had a cute little flower on the front pocket.  I got really upset and my mom told me that I would have to use my little brother's backpack, which was a black bag with elmo on the front.  I got even more upset because I hated elmo.  This whole ordeal caused me to miss the school bus and my mom had to drive me to school.  She was very angry with me and when we got to school I had to explain to my teacher and my principal why I was late.  I remember feeling very embarassed.  After I explained to my teacher what had happened she told me to put my backpack in my cubby and join the rest of the class. We found my backpack later that day in the garage.

I think this memory is especially memorable because my family still makes fun of me for it to this day.  However, I know that I have not completely formulated this memory out of what my family tells me.  I remember looking up at my teacher and explaining to her, I remember the feeling of embarassment and shamefulness. This was probably the most bratty I ever got as a child and I don't think I'm anything like that now.  I still hate elmo, but now I would put up with using an elmo back pack for one day.
