Attachment Lab: relationship with the caregiver

I believe that the relationship of the child with his/her caregiver is an important factor that affects both, the type of childhood attachment as well as their well being later on in life. For exmaple, if a child is raised with constant support and encouragement, it is likely that he/she will have secure attachment as a child and have the confidence that will enable him/her to have fruitful relationships as an adult. This will enable the child to do well later in his/her life. On the otherhand, if a child is neglected and constantly demeaned, it is likely for him/her to have insecure attachment and not be able to do well as an adult later in his/her life.

I completely agree with this analysis of secure attachment. But I don't think it can be solely limited to the caregiver. I believe that a relationship and interaction with many others, such as relatives and friends, even educators, have a lot, if not, a little, influence on the well-being of an individual. One can grow up with loving and supportive parents, but if they do not develop a satisfactory relationship with people outside of their familial structure, they may not be so well-off after all.
