Attachment Lab

While children's attachment styles may influence certain babies' adulthood, attachment style by itself cannot completely determine a child's future. Although there may be many factors that can affect the child later in life, the overall environment that the in which the child grows up is the most important factor deciding the later adjustment. This "overall environment" may include the economic status of the family, education, and opportunities for social interactions .

I agree that environment throughout the rest of the child's development will also determine their future. However, how much do you think that environment also effects their attachment style? If attachment style also depends on environment, then do the same conditions for well-being later in life cause a child to be securely attached? I think that this is not the case, since a devoted and possibly over-bearing mother could have a very securely attached child, but later in life an overbearing mother can lead a child to have social troubles.

I agree with this idea to a certain degree. The attachment style's effect on later life would likely greatly diminish if the child grew up in a bad neighborhood and associated with others who reversed the effects of attachment as a baby. However, I still believe that the attachment could be strong enough as a baby that despite other external factors growing up, the child's future would still be determined greatly by the attachment as a baby.
