I think the environment one grows up in might have more influence over the independent and dependent variables.  For example, a caring, sensitive mother might have effects on both the type of attachment and later adjustments a person makes.  
Also, I think a person's friends would play an important role.  Early experiences in day care or preschool may have additional influence on the attachment to the parents, or on characteristics usually exhibited by securely attached children.  Also, considering the massive amounts of time spent with friends and peers, especially growing up, these experiences are likely very important in teaching children important lessons and allowing them to better adapt to different situations.
