a possible alternative is that children and influenced by their day care play mates and classmates as they get older. When the child gets to be over 3 years old, they start spending a lot of time with other kids, and since they are the same age, they tend to become close and then more distant to their parents (kids will enjoy spending time with their friends than with there parents). And soon later, there will be a lot of times when peer pressure wins over morals planted by the parents.
