I've had this dream before. Even as the dream started, I knew I was going to die, but I still tried to escape. I was being chased by a man and a woman with guns. The "dream me" knew who the man was, but not the woman. I was by a body of water with land in the far distance and so I swam very fast, trying to escape and they followed me. I continually ran and hid. There were many close calls where they found me but I managed to escape. It felt like I was being chased forever. Eventually, we wound up in my neighborhood. I was hiding under my neighbor's deck and he found me. We had a fight and a struggle for the gun and I got the gun; I had him pinned on the ground. I was ready to shoot. I heard a gunshot. But it wasn't from my gun, it was the girl standing beside us. She shot me in the back.
This dream translates as defeat for me. Maybe you have feelings of being defeated or feel as if someone is going to defeat you. I also see it another way, maybe you feel as if someone has "stabbed you in the back" or betrayed your trust in some way. In the dream there is a constant momentum to escape and once you reach this point of being safe and in charge, you die. I also realized how you managed to escape without having any protection, but when you were guarded and had you're back turned, the dream took a weird turn. It could also mean to watch your surroundings, when you think you have won the battle there is always something else to look out for. Another thing, you knew the guy in the dream and managed to essentially "defeat" him. However, the girl you didn't know and she was the one that ended the dream. I could see that as translating into fear of getting to know someone or fear of strangers and meeting people. Or perhaps you just understand how the people you know work, enabling you to get the gun from the guy in the dream. As opposed to strangers, who you wouldn't think to look out for or much less be concerned about.
I found this to be pretty interesting. I would be interested in finding out when you have these dreams, as in what your life is like at that time to see if there is any correlation between conscious stress levels.
It sounds to me like in the dream you feel trapped, and you know that you feel trapped. You cannot avoid it, but you try to do so anyways. Perhaps the unexpected element of surprise in the end brought upon by the woman's gunshot relates to you (in your conscious existence) being so consumed with something (whether it be school, friends, etc.) and then suddenly being caught completely off guard by something else that you never expected.
The journey throughout the dream (from the body of water to your neighbor's porch) is just you, in your daily life, trying to face some problem, event, situation, or person but inevitably (and in your dream literally) bringing it "close to home" right in the forefront of your conscious life. Your eventual death, I think, symbolizes our futile attempts as human beings trying to run our own lives.
Sometimes things just go the way they want to, and we feel like spectators in our own stories even though we want to be doing the writing. This, of course, raises some powerful questions about choices and destiny that I will not try to answer for you.
Your dream is a very common one. Apparently the running away from someone part is supposed to represent a few things: the someone chasing you is supposed to reperesent a certain anxiety, fear, or concern that haunts you whether you're consciously aware of it or not, you running away from that someone is how you would or want to respond to that certain anxiety (not saying you will certainly run away rather than face it, just that you may unconcsciously want to).
The part where you run back to your neighborhood may represent that even the familiar, homely atmosphere of your hometown cannot waive this anxiety, and the part where you struggle to get the gun may represent that perhaps with the support (represented by your hometown, probably symbolic for loved ones or close friends?) you will face your fears and conquer them, as you did in your dream, succeeding in pinning the man and obtaining the gun.
The part where you get shot in the back may be symbolic for betrayal or getting blindsided by something that wasn't factored in before because it was unseen or unknown.
Usually when one is chased after by something horrible, it represents worries or stress ones undergoing. However, I notice several points distinct about your dream, because you know of the consequence from the beginning, and while you are able to fight against the man, you are murdered by the woman you dont know of. The dream repeatedly occurs to you, and you are somewhat forced to run the cycle again. The running and chasing part is something you face frequently and that you cannot refuse. I would like to hear more about the neighborhood in your dream and the significance of the place to you. Your dream is vivid and descriptive, and in such a terrifying dream, I think the scenery must have personal relationship, certainly negative, with you. You are able to overcome the fear that haunts you, by defeating the man, but the one that throws you is something unexpected. I think this uncertainty is what concerns you after all. Uncertainty is a common fear people have in their minds. People are worried about unexpected factor that could collapse all their accomplishments, and this anxiety might be a big part in your unconsciousness.
Although that dream is of a pretty common type, there are several things that it could mean. Most obviously, being chased in a dream by someone else is representative of the anxiety in your life. You are physically running away from your problems, which the man and woman represent. The fact that the man and woman catch you several times, even though you always manage to escape, means that whatever is bothering you is extremely important to you and you hold anxiety about it very close. The man and woman represent whatever issue you are dealing with, and in this case there's a chance that they could represent a male figure in your life who turned out to be not who you thought he would be. That would explain why the woman was the one who ended up shooting you; she represents his betrayal. Also, the man may have known your neighborhood because he was the one who found you under your neighbor's porch. This could mean that he was someone close to you in your life at home.

I believe your mind is trying to make sense of the transition to college. Your running for your life may show that you were having difficulty accepting or dealing with college life. There is also the possibility that you are worried about a class or something personal. Your neighborhood represents a place where you feel secure and better able to deal with your struggles. As for the gunshot, it may be your mind trying to understand and portray the possible consequences if you fail in that struggle and the people you may let down in doing so.
i think that your dream is in response to some event that has happened in your past. The reason that it keeps repeating may be because you have continuously thought about the event and you keep having the same dream as a result. The reason for this specific dream may be because you have tried to accomplish a difficult task in your past and although you tried very hard, you were unable to complete the task or achieve your goal, which would explain why even though you tried hard to escape from the two people you were eventually caught by them anyway.
