I had a dream that my family, along with other families and friends I am close to were on a platform in the sky. The platform was overseen by a giant clown who told everyone that we would have to participate in and win games in order to survive. Those who chose not to participate, the clown said, would be killed. One of these games had us jumping through giant, multicolored hoops.
At some point, I realized that I was dreaming and stopped participating. At the end of the dream, the platform shattered and everyone went swimming with a bunch of giant, strange fish. Nobody was killed.
To begin with, I believe that your dream might be partly suggestive of the "fear of clowns" idea from many popular culture references. In detail, it appears that you obeying the clown and the actions or "hoops" that you had to jump through are a display of conforming to popular behavior rather than fear. The action, or threat of killing in your case are only predicted consequences of social humiliation that many fear to experience if they failed to "listen to the clown". In other words, the giant clown is perhaps a symbol of social pressure to do things that are "acceptable" and at the end, no one died because everyone played their part. Yet the platform collapse could indicate another environment in which you continue to conform th esame way, "swim with the fishes".
