I had a dream that I was back home at night. I kept trying to pick up and pet my cat, but he kept squirming and running away. My family members were there, but did not do/say anything.
I believe that you simply miss your pet cat (and family too) and are worried that they won't remember/ love you when you return home. I too have a pet cat who I am particularly attached to (along with the rest of my family ) so I understand your concern, especially in light of the fact that cats have relatively short memories. However, this dream is probably more of a worst case scenario/ Murphy's Law version of your return home. Your cat will still recognize you by your smell and you family will be pleased to see you, unlike their non-responsive attitude in your dream. If this is not the case with your family, you have larger issues and are likely dreading your return home because of a family that doesn't recognize you (although I doubt this is the case).
Pen name: lily I think the cat is just one part of it. I think you just miss your family and your friends. Maybe you are afraid that since you are away at college, your family members will forget about you. I think this dream reflects a sense of fear and loss.
Thank you for clarifying what I meant. My first post got deleted when I tried to submit it so I tried to recreate what I had just written, which is extremely difficult as you know. I believe that Luna is missing her whole family/ friends/ pets/ connections back at home and that it simply manifests itself in the form of the cat. You are probably anxious about being away from them, which is normal.
The cat could represent some goal that you have unsuccesfully trying to reach. Perhaps you have come close once or maybe even a couple time, but that goal continues to be out of reach. Your family members could represent some feeling that you have a lack of support from not only your loved ones but also those around you.
