Dream- Try hard and don't succeed

Pretentious Cube Drawer

My dream consisted of my dad about to die in exactly 7 hours.  I had to complete multiple small errands in order to keep him alive.  I completed all the tasks, yet he still died.

I think your try hard and don't succeed pretty much hits it. Maybe it also means that you don't want to let your dad down.

The whole '7 hours' thing is pretty interesting - why so exact a number? Maybe this dream has something to do with pessimism in your life? Something to the effect of 'no matter what you do, you really can't control the world around you'. Have you talked to your dad recently? Maybe this could have triggered it.  Or are you feeling homesick? The feeling of being taken out of your family setting could  be a part of this - the inevitability of having to move on, even if you don't want to yet.

It sounds like you're extremely worried about pleasing your parents (your dad in particular) and completing a multitude of tasks to keep him alive and happy. You might also be afraid of letting your dad down, no matter how hard you try. Have you called your parents recently?

I think that your dream might reflect your desire to live up to your dad's expectations of you. The fact that you completed all of the tasks, yet he still dies may represent a feeling that whatever you do is not good enough. I'm not sure how to interpret the death aspect of this maybe signifying that you think your parent's expectations are a 'life or death' situation; if you underperform even slightly, the consequences will be grave.
