My earliest memory is from when I was six years old. I was staying a hotel in Florida with my Dad and my brother, who was three at the time. I was really itchy for some reason (probably sunburn, now that I think about it) so my Dad went downstairs to look for like, anti-inch cream or something. He probably wasn't gone that long, but I remember it felt like ages, so my brother and I went out in the hallway. And then the door locked behind. I have a very clear image of the dark hallway with a window at the end that had some light coming through it, a table with a vase or a lamp on it, and the carpet was really scratchy. I remember sitting cross-legged on the floor, and my little brother sitting next to me laying sideways on my lap. That's the earliest clear memory I have that doesn't come from looking at pictures and stuff.
I've changed since then in that I've become more mature so I was then, so I would probably be more proactive then I was then. But I still have that same protective, kind of maternal thing going.

Pen Name: Fields My earliest memory was also when I was staying at a hotel. Maybe our first memory is from a hotel because it was our first time staying away from our home where everything is commonly known. The memory seems so clear in our memory maybe because it was the first time everything was different for a long period of time and we remembered those differences quite clearly.
I agree with 'Fields' that you most likely have a good recollection of this event because it was your first experience away from home. It stands out because of the change in setting from previous occurrences in your life. Also, the emotional connection to your brother may have caused this to stand out in your memory. It could have been the first time you considered yourself responsible for him. The combination of these two new experiences made this event stand out compared to other ordinary events around this time in your life.
