Earliest Memory

Im not sure of the exact age, but I suppose I must have been four years old.My sister, who is two years younger, was walking very well and I wasnt attending kindergarten yet. Also, the house in which my memory took place isnt the place I was living when I was five.In our house, there was a very large closet. In fact, I think it may have been a regular bedroom turned into a closet. This room, I particularly remember because it had glow in the dark wallpaper. If we turned off the lights, there would be stars and clouds all over the entire room.Of course, because both of us were afraid of the dark we left the door open. When it got scary, we could follow the light to the door. One day, we were playing hide and seek, in which I was the seeker and my sister the hider.I went through the isles of clothing attempting to find my sister.I knew she was in there because I could hear her, but I couldnt find her.I decided to go out of the closet and close the door pretending that I didnt know where she was hiding. The last thing I remember of this memory is that my mom opened the door and my sister was crying.

I think this event is memorable because I had done something bad deliberately and made my sister cry.I also remember this room unbelievably clearly.Though it may have changed sometime during my lifetime, I dont think this particular event from my memory changed my personality or identity.I dont remember any guilt or shame from this memory but if this event would occur again now, I would definitely feel guilty. This does not mean that my personality changed. Its only that toddlers have not learned any empathy and exhibit only self-centered behaviors. For example, in my memory, I locked my sister in the room because I wanted to find her and win the game.I never put myself in her shoes to consider how she would feel in that situation.
