So, I have a bunch of snippets of first memories all from around the same time, and I'm not sure which one actually comes "first" because they're just from random things in preschool, but some of my earliest memories involve wanting something- for instance, I remember being in a music class for toddlers, and they had these wooden sticks that you could tap together to make a rhythm. They had smooth ones and ones with spirals on them, and I remember being in the class with my mom and she brought the smooth ones over and I was like no! I want the fun ones! (because they were more fun because if you rubbed them together they made a cool noise) And so she got the other ones for me. I also remember that at the end of the class I lined them up one after another and was rolling them back and forth because I thought the way the spirals looked when you rolled them was really neat. And class was over, so my mom kept trying to make me go, but I didn't want to because I just wanted to play with the rhythm sticks. I was probably approximately... 2 and something, I don't know, I'll say 2 and a half.
Other things I remember include there being this girl in my preschool class who always had these candy dots that I really wanted, and I had a dream about that once... also, my mom had this tape recorder and I always really wanted to be the one to push the button to start it.
Yeah, thinking about it, definitely a lot of my early memories have to do with either wanting something or thinking something was really cool. These might stick in my mind because they were rooted in my feelings/thoughts. That said, I can pretty much take myself back to the moments that I have these memories from. I guess it's abnormal, and I know I've changed and grown up, but I definitely feel like the same person. As someone else put it, I've never felt young, I've always just felt like me.
This is a cool memory. I think it's really normal for toddlers to focus on wanting things or enjoyment, and for you to remember those feelings as well as the memory itself is pretty impressive! Every little kid wants to do fun things like play with music sticks or press that fun button on the tape recorder, but it's neat how you've made this seemingly common things so magnetic in your memory!
