While I do think attachment plays a role in later adjustment, I also think another variable could be hereditary. For example, some babies may naturally be more inclined to form secure attachments, and this same natural quality would extend to relationships later in life. Therefore, those babies that naturally form secure attachments would be adults that show better adjustment later in life, creating a correlation between the two.
