The book states that the child's future relationships are usually very similar to the relationship that it had with it's mother. I think that another factor that could have an affect on the child's future behavior could be relationships that it forms with its peers. For example, if the child has positive experiences when interacting with its peers then it will become more confident and will develop better relationships in the future.
I agree. Children are definitely influenced by their peers. While positive experiences can help them form better relationships, negative experiences, like being bullied, can turn children the other way and make them more withdrawn and insecure.
The relationship between a mother and child is important in building a foundation for future relationship skills. Positive experiences do develop more confidence and healthier relationships. Although there are other factors that will come to affect the child's personality as they grow, the future relationships encountered seem to be similar to the relationship with the mother. -bob
I agree with the notion that peers have a lot of impact too. From a personal perspective, the choosing of peers who you hang out with becomes crucially important, because they could potentially alter the relationship between parents and children as well as alternate the children's course of development.
