Dream Lab

Pen Name: Technetium

I had a dream where I drove down from CMU to University of Virginia, to visit a bunch of my friends from high school.  I brought an enormous stockpile of sweets with me for the trip, and I ate so much sugar that by the time I arrived, I felt very sick.  All of my friends didn't seem to care, and I was sad that they were having so much fun while I was suffering.  My friends all decided to get frozen yogurt, and I went with them, having nothing else to do.  The place was self-serve, like Razzy Fresh, but you could also make a cone.  I took a cone, but couldn't eat any frozen yogurt because I felt so sick.  I started eating the cone in the line, and didn't pay when I got to the cashier.  The cashier got so angry with me that I ran away and then I woke up.

Perhaps your sickness and the lack of concern by your friends means that you feel like you are each moving on in your lives separately. Maybe you feel like they are all moving on and happy, but you're the one that's left out and that they aren't very concerned that you're alone.

I agree with apazz that maybe you and your high school friends are moving on in different pathways, probably because you are not going to the same school anymore. You and your friends are living in different places, with different people, so your friendships might start to get further apart. It is like a hidden conflict or tension that might be going on with your friendships, and you are slowly realizing it. But it seems like you might be the only one who is feeling this separation. And the running away part seems to be like you are avoiding problems or conflicts in your life.

I think your trip to UVA represents your longing to see your high school friends again. You are driving away from CMU because you are uncomfortable in the new environment and long for your old friends. Perhaps the hoard of sweets you bring with you is your high school memories. Thinking about them makes you miss your friends, symbolized by the sickness you get from indulging in them. The uncaring nature of your friends may show your insecurity that your old friends will forget or replace you. I think the cone represents your new life at CMU and the frozen yogurt represents your old high school friends. You can't eat any frozen yogurt because you fear rejection from your old high school friends, who have moved on. You eat, but don't pay for the cone because you are involved at your new life at CMU, but are conflicted about accepting this new set of friends and want to run away.

It seems like you feel that your friends from high school are having fun without you which is exemplified by your friends laughing and having fun amongst themselves while you're suffering. You take a cone at the frozen yogurt place because you want to join in with your friends but the fact that you're still sick means that you can't.

It seems to me that sweets represent a means for covering up turmoil. They appear nice on the surface but you soon realize that they make you sick. To you it seems like your friends are having fun without you so you wanted to go participate with them even though it wasn't something you wanted to do (if you did you would have been willing to pay). I think this dream is incredibly relevant to peer pressure and holding true to your own values. I think it warns against using superficial means to cover problems you may be facing and always may be a warning to not give in to peer pressure and participate in things you would regret. Embrace your life here and try not to worry about what people think of you :)
