I was probably around 5 years old when I can recall my earliest memory. There were not any remarkable circumstances that made it particularly memorable. I believe my personality is basically the same now as it was then. I was attempting to eat a birthday cake around my family for someone's birthday (I cannot remember who). The adults around me would not let me to my dismay because I was losing teeth and they thought I wouldn't be able to chew it. I started to cry until they finally let me have a tiny piece.
It is interesting that this is your earliest memory. I have many vivid memories from the time I was five, perhaps because a few monumental things occur around the age of five, including going to kindergarten.
This is interesting, because I also can't remember the exact details of the situation in my memory, but I do remember how I felt and acted. My emotional state is what I remember the most.
I find this interesting because you feel that your personality is the same now as it was then. I think the world would be an amazing place if we all had our 5 year old personalities. Everyone got along back then.
I think it's very interesting that your earliest memory would be one where you cried because we were not allowed to do something because of your circumstances. Perhaps this has influenced your mindset and personality today? Does it perhaps frustrate you when you are unable to achieve something, especially when others are trying to stop you?
I would say memories around the age of five are typical, as one beings to mature and do memorable things, such as beginning school, making decisions, etc. Those who can remember things into the ages of 2 and 3 are most definitely atypical; I'm not sure what I even did with my time at that age.
