The issue of nature versus nurture plays a key role in the discussion of this issue. Even if claims about attachment directly causing well-being cannot be made, there are definitely correlations. The book states that a child with secure attachment is more likely form closer connections with people when he/she is older, and is more likely to be independent, communicative, and well-adjusted. The same factors that established the secure attachment could also contribute to the establishment of these positive personality traits. For example, parents may encourage their children to be independent and social by scheduling playdates and not spoiling their children. Similar actions by parents would cause the child to form secure attachment.
