I think that siblings can have a big effect on how a child develops into later life.  The child is not only interacting with the caregiver or parent on a regular basis.  The child is also interacting with other children every day.  This has a large effect on how a person learns to deal with situations and generally how to cope.  The relationships with one's siblings are as formative as those with one's parents.
