Factors that could interfere with the IV and DV are the socialization of the infant. The child may start out forming secure attachment but end up in a group of infants that are not secure. The child may learn one of the other forms of attachment from these infants.

I think in general what it all comes down to is overall neglect and the fact that if the parent does not tend to the child then that child is never going to feel secure.
